Stuttgart, Ark. — No matter how petty, residents should report suspicious activity and theft. Stuttgart Police Chief Mike Smith said communication between the community and its police department is an essential part of what it will take to decrease crime.

Smith, along with SPD Assistant Chief Steven Bobo and four officers, met with three councilmen and 11 residents who reside around South Maple Street following the Stuttgart City Council meeting this week to discuss ways to lower crime.

“I’ve lived on Maple Street since 1976, and I’ve seen a lot of changes in Maple Street and in the city,” resident Bill Brothers said. “A lot of those changes have not been good. What I came to talk about is crime and we have had a real problem with it.” [continued...]

Slow start to early voting in Arkansas County
